Examination

We are here to hear from you

Examination

You might not feel there's anything wrong with your teeth but it's essential to have regular check-ups to keep your mouth healthy. It allows for any issues to be dealt with as soon as possible or prevent them altogether. Remember, it’s much easier to prevent problems, than cure them.

The dental exam is much more comprehensive than most people are aware. During your exam we do not only check the teeth but also the gums, tongue, lips, cheeks, jaw joints and head/neck for any potential problems or oral cancers. We may also need to take x-rays to look for tooth decay and assess your bone levels to make sure you do not have any gum disease.

Your dentist will also check your medical history and ask about smoking and alcohol consumption as these can have a bearing on not only your general health but also your oral health. Once we have completed a thorough dental exam, we are able to formulate a treatment plan for each patient based on what we have found.

Frequently Asked Question

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends that adults schedule regular dental exams at intervals determined with a dentist and informed by their disease risk. The time to your next check-up could be as short as 3 months or as long as 2 years depending on each individual.

Even if you no longer have your natural teeth, it’s important to see your dentist for regular dental exams to maintain your oral health and the function of your replacement teeth.

If you’re nervous about dental treatment, let us know when you book. Surveys show that almost half the population of the UK are anxious about seeing the dentist so you are not alone. We are used to treating people who have dental anxiety, and there are ways a dentist can change their approach to help you.
