Tooth Whitening Treatment
We provide our patients with bespoke Boutique Whitening treatments to optimise the comfort and result of your whitening experience. Whitening your teeth should be an enjoyable experience and we have taken great care in considering that traditional methods of whitening can cause sensitivity and discomfort.
We offer tailored whitening options to support you on your comfortable whitening journey from your initial treatment to future self-maintenance.
OUR BOUTIQUE WHITENING
Our Boutique Whitening is different to over the counter or online bleaching kits you can purchase. Over the counter whitening gels are not of the same strength and quality as from your dentist. Additionally, the tray made by your dentist is custom made to tightly fit your teeth.
A tray you make yourself from over the counter may leak gel into your mouth or allow saliva to dilute the bleaching gel reducing its effectiveness and can even damage your gums.
IN PRACTICE WHITENING
AND PROFESSIONAL HOME CARE KIT
Professional Home Care Kit
For professional, ethical and controlled whitening results, our Boutique Whitening kit allows you to whiten in the comfort of your home or on the road. Whiten when and how it suits your busy time schedule. Precision engineered gels deliver superior results with noticeable improvements of teeth colour in days of beginning treatment.
The formulations of approved gels used by dentists are strong enough to remove stains and whiten your teeth, but they do so gradually over a period of 2 to 4 weeks. This is because to remove the stains, the stronger bleach dentists are able to use (compared to over the counter bleaches) have to work over time in a monitored way to prevent any damage to your teeth.
The shade of white which can be achieved in the case of your teeth will depend on your existing tooth colour, previous dental restorations and the type and density of any staining. During your whitening consultation, your dentist will show you which shades are achievable from your of boutique whitening treatment and discuss your options to periodical maintenance routines to maintain your desired shade. Keeping your teeth white all depends on your lifestyle.
For instance somebody who is a heavy smoker and eats a lot of staining foods will need top up gels every 3 to 4 months. Comparing that with the average person who doesn’t smoke and keeps a balanced diet of non-staining foods, they would only need to top up every six months or even yearly.

It is illegal for anyone else other than registered dental professionals to carry out teeth whitening. These regulations are to protect the public. They make sure that anyone carrying out whitening is properly trained and has the right skills and knowledge to carry out the procedure without risking permanent damage to the teeth or gums.
Yes, teeth whitening works if carried out by a trained dental professional. Whitening uses a peroxide-based gel to lighten the teeth. These chemicals break down and release oxygen which gets into the hard, outer surface of your teeth (the enamel) and lightens them.
Whitening does not hurt but it’s common for your teeth to become sensitive to cold either during or after treatment. This is usually temporary and should settle down after a couple of days. If symptoms persist, please get in touch with your dentist who can give you further advice. Your dentist can recommend on suitable toothpastes to help with sensitivity.
The main risks associated with tooth whitening is increased tooth sensitivity, often during the early days of whitening. There can be mild irritation of the gums most commonly caused from ill-fitting bleaching trays rather than the bleaching products. Both of these risks usually are temporary and resolve within a few days of completing treatment.
There are a few ways you can reduce or eliminate tooth sensitivity when whitening your teeth. You can wear the trays for a shorter period of time or stop whitening for a day or two to allow your teeth to adjust to the whitening process. You can brush your teeth with a toothpaste made for sensitive teeth as these toothpastes contain potassium nitrate, which helps soothe your teeth or you can change to a lower concentration of whitening gel. If any of these side effects continue you should seek advice from your dentist.
At Fitzwilliam Street Dental Care dental, we are proud to provide our patients with the best-selling, tried and tested Take Home Teeth Whitening Kit from Boutique Whitening.

To determine your suitability for tooth whitening, you will need to have a full dental assessment with your dentist first to assess your oral health.
No, there has been no report of this issue. In fact, whitening only works on natural teeth so dental restorations such as composite or amalgam fillings, crowns or dentures may need to be replaced should you wish to match these to your new tooth shade.
Home teeth whitening kits can take around 2 or 3 weeks to work but this depends on how discoloured your teeth are to begin with. The level of whiteness you achieve will depend on your diet and we usually recommend to avoid foods or beverages known to stain your teeth during treatment.
The results of whitening vary from individual to individual. Your dentist will be able to advise you on the likely results following an initial consultation.
You can help to keep your teeth white by reducing the amount of food and drinks you have that can stain teeth. If you do choose to consume beverages that stain, consider using a straw so that the liquid bypasses your front teeth.
Don’t forget, stopping smoking can also help prevent discolouration and staining.
Follow good oral hygiene practices by brushing your teeth at least twice daily and floss at least once daily to remove plaque.
Consider touch-up treatments. Depending on the whitening method used, you may need a touch-up after a year or two. If you smoke or drink lots of stain-causing beverages, you may need a touch up more often.
When carried out properly, the effects of whitening are thought to last up to three years. However, this will vary from person to person. If you smoke, or eat or drink products that can stain your teeth, the effect is less likely to last as long.
You may only need to carry out simple top-ups afterwards, which you can do at home. Your dentist will provide you with these when necessary.
