Why Fitzwilliam? 01709 872292

Seventy years in Wath upon Dearne. Still family-run.

A family practice on Fitzwilliam Street, looking after people from across Rotherham. You see the same faces each visit, and you get the cost in writing before you agree to anything.

Care for every need

Three steps, and no surprises

Come in once and find out where you stand

  • 30 minutes, and nobody rushing you

A full examination and a proper conversation about what is bothering you, with a GDC-registered dentist you can look up before you come in.

  • Free if it is about straightening

The straightening consultation costs nothing. A £25 deposit holds the slot and comes back to you when you attend. Any other first appointment is quoted when you book it.

  • Coming in commits you to nothing

You leave with your options and the cost of each in writing, and you take it away to think about.

What a new patient appointment covers

A dentist showing a new patient a digital scan of their teeth
  • A full initial examination
  • Jaw joint, gum and teeth checks
  • A conversation about your concerns
  • Prevention advice and your treatment options
  • A treatment agenda for anything running over several visits
  • A written quote for anything you need

Book an appointment

£30, all in. No obligation to go ahead.

Worth comparing before you book

Where Fitzwilliam Dental stands on eight things worth checking, and what you may find at other practices.
Elsewhere At Fitzwilliam Dental
The cost, before you agree

Often quoted on the day

  • Fees may not be published at all
  • An estimate may be verbal, or may not arrive until afterwards
  • Costs can move once treatment is under way

A written estimate before treatment begins

  • Told in advance if a plan changes and the cost changes with it
  • Time to think it over, and no obligation to book
Paying over time

Often advertised as a monthly amount

  • Ask who the lender is, and what the credit costs in total

Payment plans for treatment over £300

Where treatment happens

Some treatment may be referred elsewhere

  • A referral can add weeks before treatment starts

Five areas of care in one practice

  • General, cosmetic, straightening, implant and facial care
  • Nine people in the practice team
  • One practice, not part of a dental group
Scans and impressions

Impression putty is still in common use

  • Ask whether scans and radiographs are digital

A digital scanner instead of impression trays

  • Digital radiographs, at a lower dose than the film they replaced
  • More comfortable to sit through, and a more precise fit at the end
How long the practice has been here

Often not stated on a website

  • Worth asking, and worth asking who owns the practice now

Caring for local families for over 70 years

  • Digital radiographs For accurate diagnosis and planning, and a lower dose than the film they replaced.

Ask us anything We would far rather answer the same question twice than have you sit there wondering.

FAQ

Answers, before you have to ask

  • Can you help if I feel anxious about dental treatment?

Yes. Let the reception team know when you book so we can allow for a calm conversation and explain each step at a pace that works for you.

  • Can I spread the cost of treatment?

Finance options may be available for eligible treatments, subject to status and terms. Ask the team for current details before making a decision.

  • What should I do if I need urgent dental care?

Call us as early as possible on 01709 872292. If the practice is closed, our recorded message will explain the appropriate out-of-hours route.

  • Are you accepting new patients?

Please call the practice or send a general enquiry. The team will explain current availability and the most suitable first appointment.

The things we always tell you

  • Every treatment carries some risk

There is no dental treatment with a nil risk of complication, and any practice telling you otherwise is selling something. Before you agree to anything, expect a plain description of what could go wrong, how likely it is, and what the alternatives are, including doing nothing for now.

  • Whitening does not work on everything

Whitening lightens natural enamel. It does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or white fillings, so an existing restoration at the front of your mouth can end up looking darker once the rest has lightened. Temporary sensitivity is common, and whitening is restricted by law to patients over 18 except where it treats or prevents disease.

  • Straightened teeth move back without retainers

Teeth have a memory. Once aligners come off they drift back towards where they started unless they are held, which is why retainers are part of the treatment rather than an optional extra afterwards. Expect some discomfort as teeth move, and expect us to want your gums healthy before we start.

  • Fillings, crowns and root canals do not last forever

A restoration is a repair, not a replacement for a healthy tooth. Fillings and crowns wear, chip and eventually need redoing, and root canal treatment can fail years later even when it was done well. How long any of it lasts depends heavily on cleaning, grinding and diet, which is why we spend appointment time on prevention.

Still not sure?

The reception team is happy to talk things through before you commit to anything. No obligation, and no clinical detail needed over the phone.
