Cosmetic bonding

Composite bonding is the application of a tooth-coloured resin to build up worn teeth or to alter the shape of teeth to improve their appearance. Is one of the least invasive of all cosmetic dental procedures as you often do not need to remove any of your existing tooth structure before bonding the white filling material to the tooth so it is better for the tooth long term.

Teeth straightening frequently asked questions

Is teeth straightening safe?

Yes, teeth straightening is very safe as it is usually one of the most conservative and minimally invasive treatment options available to achieve a perfect smile.

How does teeth straightening work?

Teeth straightening with orthodontics works by applying pressure to specific areas of your tooth. This pressure can be used to twist, tip or move teeth in a particular direction. The skill with orthodontic braces is being able to apply exactly the right amount of pressure in exactly the right price to move the tooth in the desired way. This pressure to move teeth can be applied using conventional orthodontics with brackets bonded to your tooth and wire between. Alternatively that same pressure can be applied with a clear appliance such as Invisalign.

Can retainers straighten teeth?

No. Retainers are passive appliances and are there purely to maintain your teeth in their final position after having orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic braces are active appliances which move your teeth.

Can adults straighten their teeth?

Yes. With the advent of more cosmetically appealing orthodontic appliances, such as Invisalign more and more adults are choosing to have their teeth straightened with orthodontics. In the past adults didn’t like to have orthodontic treatment as the only options were conventional metal train track braces, however these days are now gone and adults can have straighter teeth often in around six months.
